Fish Species

The Sea of Cortez is the world's aquarium.... - Jacques Cousteau

Playing host to over 35 species of gamefish and over 800 species of fish, Baja's East Cape is a prime local for a variety of billfish including blue and black marlin (200-1000 pounds), striped marlin (80-200 pounds),  and Pacific sailfish (80-150 pounds). Catch-and-release is strongly encouraged for all billfish. These apex predators comprise the pinnacle of a fragile marine ecosystem.

Species like tuna and dorado (mahi-mahi) can be plentiful and make excellent table fare along with an occasional wahoo. Numerous inshore species such as roosterfish,  yellowtail, amberjack, grouper, snook add to the incredible variety of gamefish on the Sea of Cortez.
