Why East Cape Guides™

Time and time again we've seen inexperienced anglers on the East Cape without the proper gear and knowledge to maximize the opportunity to catch a fish of a lifetime. East Cape Guides™ was started in 2000 to allow working professionals to spend more time fishing and relaxing, and less time scheduling flights, boats and buying tackle. This is why we think you should go with us:
On-The-Water Guide Service
East Cape Guides™ is not a fishing destination host, we are an on-the-water guide service. Our services include on-the-water, A-Z training in fishing Baja Offshore Big Game Style with all top-of-line tackle included. We practice catch and release of all billfish. The billfish you release today is the billfish your son or daughter will release tomorrow. Contact Us for more information on our services.
Knowledge
Our guides have two decades of knowledge fishing Mexican waters and learning from the local captains. This knowledge translates into selecting the right boats, seasons, dates, tackle and techniques to provide the best opportunity for you to land that fish of a lifetime. We also have extensive knowledge of the history, marine life and ecology of the Sea of Cortez, enriching your understand of why Baja's East Cape is such an unique fishery.
Planning
We work with you to plan a trip that will give you the best change at landing the target species of your choice (billfish, tuna, dorado, wahoo). We'll also provide you with the best options for accomodations and amenities while staying on the East Cape.
After we planned your trip with you, we connect you with a travel agent that handles all the reservations for flights, hotel and boat charters. Because of knowledge of the East Cape's hotels and boats, we help you with selecing only the best rooms and boats available. Clients must confirm all bookings.
Communication
Communication with a captain and mate is an important aspect to maximizing your enjoyment on the water and catch at the end of the day. The language barrier or just the misunderstanding of how the captain and mate are fishing can be a cause for confusion and frustration. Our guides have an extensive understanding of the East Cape fishery and can communicate with a captain and/or mate a target fish or style of fishing your party prefers.
Remember, captains and mates want you to catch fish, but sometimes communication can get in the way.
Trip Photos and Videos
We provide a DVD of photos and videos of your time on the water and document your catch. See our client photos and videos.
We're Kid Friendly
One of the biggest thrills in child's life is catching their first fish. We actively work to keep our client's children engaged and entertained while on the water. It is our sincere pleasure in documenting a child's first fish and your life long memory. We recommend a child be 12 years of age or older before fishing offshore.
We Specialize in Offshore Big Game Tackle
Although the East Cape sportfishing crews are some of the most skilled and knowledgeable in the world, the tackle they provide, in many ways, can be less than adequate. Most rental gear on the East Cape is old and the fishing line is seldomly replaced throughout a season. The last thing you'd want while fighting a giant blue marlin or tuna for hours is to have your reel fail or old fishing line break causing true heartbreak. We at East Cape Guides™ are fishing tackle fanatics and have an extensive collection of top of the line gear. All of which is provided on your trip. Our tackle list includes:
- Shimano and Avet reels
- All Calstar custom rods
- Marlin lures - Allure, Aloha, Black Bart, Futa, Hi5, Joe Yee, Marlin Magic, Moldcraft, Polu Kai, Williamson, Zuker
- Assorted dorado/tuna/wahoo lures - Custom Jets, Sevenstrand, Rapala, Williamson, Yozuri, Zuker
- Assorted teminal tackle - hooks, leaders, rigs, weights,
- Fighting belts - Braid, Smitty
Be assured that all our tackle is up for the battle.
Small Group Trips
East Cape Guides™ limits our trips to small groups (3-8 persons). This allows us to provide the best possible guides services.
